The difference in quality between this album and House of Balloons is baffling, at points it's hard to comprehend that it's the same person, at other points, the old Weeknd is still here. So many quality songs here, very strong opening and very strong closing. Towards the 2/3's mark things slip back to his old directionless, crooning style, but I think that can be forgiven, although I wonder going forward if there will always be remnants of that era of The Weeknd. Much more interesting instrumentals, much better lyrics. One thing I will say, is that it is bloated, it did not need to be 18 songs. Chop six or seven songs off this thing and it's easily 70+.
