vampire diaries

This is the first time I've properly given time to anything MGK has done, like ever, and it was a bad first impression. Genuinely not a single good thing about this album. What he thinks he's doing is writing a love letter to rock music, but it couldn't be further from that. There are constant references to bands and songs intermingled with non-stop lines about how much he fucked his life up. The writing is surface level, cliché slop. There's an entire song on here about what it must be like to be a vampire. No metaphors, literally just "what do vampires do?". Vocally, ass. Every note he's trying to hit just ends up strained. It sounds like it hurts him to sing. The tracks where he stays within his range, few and far between, he has the autotune turned obnoxiously high. One of my favourite lines is "Lately, people talk like I don't have a brain / But both my ears hear all the words you're saying", he doesn't even try to dispel the rumour of not having a brain, he just says "I hear you when you call me dumb". His niche is "Benson Boone for people who want more edge and also call people the f slur", but at least Boone can kinda hit the notes he goes for.
