It's hard to mistake Amy Winehouse's voice for anyone else's, she's so distinctive, smooth like honey. She uses it well on this album, although it does feel like she hasn't fully realised her capabilities, like she's holding back. Apart from this, being only 19 years old making this, she comes across as wise beyond her years. These songs feel more like diary entries and thoughts scrawled on a notebook page. Some of it feels deeply personal. In terms of the music itself, a lot of very relaxed and laid back, lo-fi instrumentals. There are definitely mixing issues here however, songs like Know You Now and In My Bed have her vocals kinda drowned out. Overall a decent debut, nothing calls me back to it however, there's nothing here I would add to a playlist.
