Take It Or Leave It
I was excited to listen to Is This It given what I'd heard and read about it. It's received high praise and critical acclaim from many. Brandon Flowers (the frontman for The Killers, one of my favourite bands) said "That record just sounded so perfect, we threw away everything [we were working on] and the only song that made the cut and remained was 'Mr Brightside'". This is high praise, given the result of that scrapping was Hot Fuss, which I love and rated very highly. But when I finished listening, I just kinda felt disappointed. It felt like a boring heap of samey songs with little to offer. Maybe I'm missing something but I don't understand it. There's just not much here. The instrumentals are fine, the vocals are semi-sleep inducing with not much substance. Did I have my headphones on backwards or something? I just came away thinking "is this it?".
