A beautifully raw, stripped back folk rock album, themed around WW2, that explores an almost youthful, coming-of-age genesis that's as messed up as it is hopeful. The lyricism here is great, each song has many layers that are seemingly still debated about today. You could very well write an essay on all of the imagery and symbolism here. In terms of the music, there's nothing fancy, a lot of drums, horns, acoustic guitar, but it doesn't need to be fancy, everything just works. I can see why this is regarded as a classic.
