This was my most anticipated release of this year and it really didn't disappoint. It absolutely delivered on everything I was hoping. If you liked Stick Season, his last release, you'll really enjoy this, it's in the same vein but it feels a lot tighter and refined. He's really leaning into the Americana, American Cars carries a lot of inspiration from Springsteen. And while the usual mood he goes for when writing music is just pure sadness packaged in a twangy wrapper, there's an air of anger here too, on Haircut, Willing and Able and Dashboard. If you don't come out of this album having had at least one gut punch, I don't know what to say to you.
