I really enjoyed this album. Most of it is what you would have come to expect from a Bon Iver album, poetic, abstract lyrics, interesting samples, great production. My main gripe is it's focus. Every other album is very tight and concentrated around a set of themes, an aesthetic. I don't feel that here. Sure, there's a narrative, somewhat, of new love, and the anxieties and acceptances that come along with it, but it feels looser. Maybe it's that the narrative is too broad, maybe it's just me, I don't know, but it's missing the clarity present on previous projects.
